Good Samaritan Policy
Good Samaritan Policy
The health and safety of our community is of paramount concern to all members of Saint Peter’s University. Community members are expected to act out of concern for themselves and others. Recognizing that there are times when members of the community find themselves in positions where medical assistance is needed to ensure the proper care of a person under the influence of a substance(s), the University has established this Good Samaritan Policy.
Members of Saint Peter's University community have an obligation to contact Campus Safety or a Residence Life staff member when they believe a person under the influence of a substance(s) may be in need of assistance. No person under the influence of a substance(s) seeking and/or receiving assistance for themselves or others will be subject to Student Conduct outcomes by the University under Saint Peter’s University Alcohol Policy and the Drug & Controlled Substances Policy. A person under the influence of a substance(s) seeking and/or receiving assistance will be required to complete educational initiatives which are intervention and prevention based and will be subject to action under the Student Code of Conduct for failure to complete those initiatives.
Other violations of the Student Code related to the same incident may be referred for disciplinary review and sanction. Students may still be subject to local and state law for their behavior. The University reserves the right to review each incident on a case by case basis.
Furthermore, community members who demonstrate a consistent and repeated pattern of behavior (i.e. more than once), after appropriate intervention and education have been provided, will not be considered under this policy.
