Noise Control Policy
Saint Peter’s University students are not permitted to produce and/or engage with excessive noise that disrupts other members of the University community, as well as individuals outside of the University community (i.e. neighbors to the University, guests, etc.). If any student wishes to host an event where music will be played, it must be kept to a reasonable level indoors and may not exceed 65 decibels if the event is taking place outside.
For students living in the residence halls on campus, there are set quiet hours in place to ensure that other students can get adequate sleep as well as live in an environment that is conducive to academic success. Those quiet hours are:
- Sunday into Monday - 11:00pm Sunday until 10:00am Monday
- Monday into Tuesday - 11:00pm Monday until 10:00am Tuesday
- Tuesday into Wednesday - 11:00pm Tuesday until 10:00am Wednesday
- Wednesday into Thursday - 11:00pm Wednesday until 10:00am Thursday
- Thursday into Friday - 11:00pm Thursday until 10:00am Friday
- Friday into Saturday - 12:00am Friday until 10:00am Saturday
- Saturday into Sunday - 12:00am Saturday until 10:00am Sunday
Additionally, Saint Peter’s University observes 24-hour courtesy hours for noise. Courtesy hours are in effect when quiet hours are not. During courtesy hours, music, voices or noise should not be disruptive to others. Students are expected to comply immediately with the requests of others to lessen or eliminate noise. Students are expected to demonstrate courtesy and consideration toward others at all times.
Please note that during final examination periods until the end of the final examination period, all residence halls are placed under a 24-hour quiet hours stipulation to ensure every student can prepare in an environment conducive to academic success.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in student conduct action that is reflective of the severity of the policy violation.
